Should you keep your passport current-The answer to that question is a qualified Yes!   By 2018, many states will not accept a state i.d. as valid identification for flying, and a passport is a great option to use instead.

With the fall travel heating up and holiday travel time fast approaching, make sure that you have all of your documents in place to be able to travel is vital. If your passport is expired

If your passport is expired it can put the brakes on your travel plans.

During busy travel periods, the processing time for passports and visas take even more time than usual. The standard time for processing passports is approximately 4 to 6 weeks.

However, in the busier travel seasons, it goes up to between 7 to 8 weeks. If you are traveling somewhere that is usually a popular vacation spot or is really popular for a certain reason the time could go up even more. That’s why outsourcing the acquisition of your passport is a great idea.

An example: in 2014 the world cup was in Brazil and this made Brazil seriously overrun with travelers and hence longer processing times. For the 2016 Olympics, Brazil waived the  visa requirement, but not the passport.

Another reason to keep that Passport Current

The state department strongly suggests that you don’t wait till the last minute to renew your passport. You can and should check out the country that you are planning to and you can get your destination country information at the State Departments page here.

You know what comes after Memorial Day Weekend? Summer travel season kicks off!

If you need to renew your passport, we can make it happen in as little as 24 hours. Expect a wait of an average of 5-7 weeks through the U.S. Passport Agency.

Best Western is reporting advance booking of its 2000+ hotels across the U.S. is reporting a 7% increase in summer bookings. Other hotel chains are reporting similar increases. Which means, you can expect airports to be crowded all summer.

According to a study conducted by Airlines for America, an industry group that represents the largest U.S. carriers, this summer will be the busiest summer in the history of U.S. air travel. Between June 1st through August 31st, a record 222 million travelers are expected to fly.

What does this mean for travelers?
Double check your travel documents
This means it’s more important than ever to get your passport in process if you’re getting your first one. Renew passports and add extra pages if you have less than 2 in your current passport. If you’re a frequent traveler, look into the benefits of owning a second passport.

Leave a little earlier
Also, give yourself extra time to get through check-in. If the airport you usually fly out of is slow processing travelers through check points, make sure to show up a little earlier than usual to make sure there are no delays.
