Fall Travel Planning: Passport and Visa Tips

Fall is one of the best seasons for travel—cooler weather, thinner crowds, and better flight deals. But before you grab your pumpkin-spiced latte and head to the airport, take a moment to check your passport and visa status.

One of the most common issues Americans face when traveling abroad is passport validity. Many countries require at least six months of validity left on your passport from the date of entry—or sometimes from the date you plan to return. Don’t assume that “not expired yet” means you’re safe.

Another overlooked detail is blank pages. Some countries require at least two empty visa pages for entry stamps. If your passport is filled with stamps from past adventures, it might be time for a renewal.

Visa requirements also change based on where you’re headed. Some countries, like Morocco, Fiji, and Argentina, allow U.S. citizens to enter without a visa for short stays. Others, like Turkey and Nepal, require a visa or eVisa in advance. Processing times vary—so start early if you want to avoid stress.

By planning now, you’ll sidestep last-minute headaches and be free to enjoy everything Fall travel has to offer, from European markets to island getaways.
