Vietnam

Vietnam has become one of the most popular destinations in Southeast Asia, and its eVisa system has made visiting considerably easier.

Many U.S. travelers can apply online and receive their visa electronically before traveling. Once approved, the eVisa can be presented upon arrival as part of the entry process.

This online system has removed much of the paperwork travelers once faced and has helped make Vietnam more accessible for tourists exploring the country's beaches, cities, mountains, and famous food culture.

Australia

Australia was one of the early adopters of ETA systems.

Rather than applying for a traditional tourist visa, many U.S. citizens can obtain electronic authorization before departure. The approval becomes linked to the traveler's passport and is reviewed electronically during the entry process.

The system has been in place for years and serves as a good example of how countries have moved away from paper-based travel permissions.

One thing travelers sometimes misunderstand is the phrase "visa-free." In many cases, it doesn't mean there are no requirements. Electronic authorizations, eVisas, passport validity rules, return tickets, and proof of travel plans may still be required before boarding a flight.
