Is the US Border Still Closed For Travel to Mexico and Canada?
The governments of the United States, Mexico and Canada have officially agreed to extend the border closure to all unnecessary travel for at least another month until September 21st. The ban, which was put into place in March to assist in stopping the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, was set to no longer be active on August 21. It is expected that the border restrictions between the Canada and the U.S. will proceed until the United States is better able to take control of the rise in coronavirus cases. Those transporting essential goods and products, temporary foreign workers and health-care workers will continue to remain free from this restriction. The Canadian government did however loosen the Canada-US border restrictions. This is so that permanent residents or immediate family members of Canadian citizens would be permitted to enter Canada as of June 9, 2020. The border ban exemption is extremely limited and currently only applies to “Foreign nationals who are immediate family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents, and who do not have COVID-19 or exhibit any signs or symptoms of COVID-19.”
