Expedited Second U.S. Passport Services
A second U.S. passport can help frequent international travelers avoid delays when one passport is tied up with visa processing, contains sensitive travel stamps, or needs to remain available for overlapping trips.
Texas Tower Passport and Visa helps eligible travelers prepare the required documents for an expedited second passport application.
What Is a Second Passport?
A second passport is an additional U.S. passport book issued to eligible travelers who have a valid passport but need a second one for specific travel reasons.
Second passport books are generally valid for four years or less and cannot be renewed the same way as a standard 10-year passport. The U.S. Department of State decides whether a second passport will be issued based on the applicant’s documented need.
Who May Need a Second Passport?
You may qualify for a second passport if:
- You travel internationally often for business
- Your current passport is being held for visa processing
- You need visas for multiple countries close together
- Your passport contains stamps that could cause entry issues in another country
- You need urgent travel while another visa application is delayed
- You need to avoid canceling a passport that contains a valid visa
The Department of State issues second passport books only in certain situations and does not issue second passport cards.
How the Second Passport Process Works
Step 1 — Complete the Correct Application
Most applicants use Form DS-82 if they can submit their valid 10-year passport book and meet the renewal requirements. If you cannot submit your current passport, you may need to apply in person using Form DS-11.
Step 2 — Write a Signed Statement
You must include a signed and dated letter explaining why you need a second passport.
Step 3 — Gather Supporting Documents
Include your passport photos, current passport, travel proof or company letter, authorization letters, and Texas Tower order form.
Step 4 — Mail Your Documents to Texas Tower
Second passport applications require original signatures. Do not scan and email these documents.

Why Travelers Request a Second Passport
A second passport can be useful when time is tight.
For example, a business traveler may need to send one passport to a foreign consulate for a visa while still needing another passport for an upcoming international trip.
It can also help when a passport contains stamps or visas from countries that may create entry concerns in another destination.
