Thinking About Brazil? Here’s What You Should Know

Brazil tends to end up on people's travel lists for obvious reasons. The beaches are famous, the scenery is incredible, and there aren't many places in the world where you can spend one day exploring a major city and the next standing in front of a waterfall that looks like something out of a movie.

A lot of first-time visitors focus on where they're going and forget to spend a little time thinking about how they're getting there.

The passport question catches people every year. Someone books flights months in advance, reserves hotels, starts researching restaurants, and then realizes their passport expired sometime during the previous administration. It happens more often than you'd think.

Before making any plans, take a minute and pull your passport out of the drawer. Check the expiration date. Check that it's in good condition. If your dog chewed on it, your toddler colored on it, or it went through the washing machine, now is the time to find out.

Travel authorization is another detail worth handling early. Brazil requires documentation beyond simply showing up at the airport with a passport. Requirements can change, which is why it helps to verify everything well before departure instead of assuming you'll deal with it later.

Once the paperwork is out of the way, the fun part begins.

Rio de Janeiro usually gets most of the attention, and for good reason. Between Copacabana Beach, Ipanema Beach, Sugarloaf Mountain, and Christ the Redeemer, there's enough to keep visitors busy for days.

São Paulo offers a completely different experience. It's larger, faster, and packed with restaurants, museums, markets, and neighborhoods that seem to have their own personalities.

Then there are the places that don't always make the front page of travel brochures. Iguaçu Falls is one of them. Pictures don't really prepare you for the scale of it. You can stand there looking at the falls and immediately understand why people travel halfway around the world to see them.

The Amazon is another destination that deserves its reputation. River cruises, wildlife, rainforest lodges, and scenery unlike anything found in the U.S. make the location one of the most memorable parts of the country.

One mistake many travelers make is trying to do everything in a single trip. Brazil is enormous. Distances that look manageable on a map can turn into long flights or full travel days. Picking a few regions and enjoying them usually works better than trying to see the entire country in one vacation.

If you're planning a trip and aren't sure where to start with passports or travel documents, Texas Tower can help. Spend your time researching beaches and restaurants instead of worrying about government paperwork.
