Planning a multi-country trip is an exciting way to explore the world, but it takes more than just booking flights and packing a bag. If you’re visiting multiple destinations, each country may have its own visa requirements, passport rules, and health documentation.
First, research entry rules for international travel. Some countries are visa-free for U.S. citizens, while others require advance approval. For example, you may not need a visa for France, but if you’re continuing on to India or Vietnam, you’ll likely need to apply beforehand. Ask yourself: Do I need a visa for each country I visit? Often, the answer is yes.
Your passport should have at least six months of validity beyond your return date, and plenty of blank visa pages. Some countries are strict about this. If your passport is running out of space, renew it before you go.
Also, if you’re renting a car overseas, consider applying for an International Driving Permit (IDP). It’s often required alongside your U.S. license, especially in European or Asian countries.
Don’t forget to check for vaccination requirements, travel insurance needs, and COVID-era documentation, especially if you’re transiting through airports in different regions.
Savvy travelers plan early and double-check requirements for every stop along the route. A little preparation goes a long way in avoiding delays at border control.
