Got a Spare $105K? You Can Dive the Titanic

It’s been a topic of heated debate for over three decades, since its discovery by Robert Ballard. Now it’s coming to fruition: you can dive the wreck of the Titanic.

In 1912, the Titanic was considered the most luxurious way to travel. Now beginning in May 2018, it will be one of the bucket list diving destinations. London-based travel company Blue Marble Private will be offering dives to the famous wreck.

Scientists estimate little to nothing will be left of the wreck in 15-20 years due to the presence of “extremophile bacteria” that are consuming the Titanic.

American travelers will need their passports handy as Blue Marble Private’s eight-day journey sets off from Newfoundland, Canada, and will transport visitors in a titanium-and-carbon-fiber submersible to the mighty vessel’s final resting place, more than two miles below the surface of the Atlantic.

The trips are in collaboration with OceanGate Expeditions. OceanGate Inc created the purpose-built submersible which will carry the crew and guests.

Despite the hefty price tag of $105,129 per person, the first voyage is already fully booked.
The submersible will take guests down two miles which will take roughly two hours. There are bioluminescent sea creatures that are visible for guests to see.
Then, the guests will spend approximately three hours exploring the Titanic wreck as well as the massive debris field that includes not only pieces of the ship but items from inside such as the fine china dinnerware.

If you feel a little weird about getting on a sub, China is building an answer for you. They are building a life size replica of the Titanic in Sichuan province. The project will have exact reproductions of the Titanic’s features such as ballroom, swimming pool, and theater.
